“I'm Kingfisher, a rare bird
nor vain, nor proud,
I just want a place to call my own.
Underneath the humble tree
is a base for you and me, is
a base for you and me”
After touring in UK, Belgium and Sweden in October, the indie-troubadour Thomas Denver
Jonsson from Sweden embarks now on a new tour in Germany and Sweden. His latest album
THE LAKE ACTS LIKE AN OCEAN (kite/shellshock) was released internationally last year and
received very good reviews and he was compared to stuff like M Ward, The National,
Bonnie Prince Billy and Cat Power. The Times listed him as one of six acts that have
taken the Swedish pop scene forward since ABBA, The Word put him on their covermounted cd.
Also very good words in The Sun, Independent, Uncut, BBC6, Rock Sound, RocknReel,
Americana UK and more. This'll be his first comprehensive tour in Germany. Upon this, the label KNOPPAR
has just released the second full-length album with Thomas' side
project A PERFECT FRIEND (folktronica-duo with C-J Larsgården.
His 2009 started with touring with the American pop artist Josh Rouse in Sweden, then
went on with touring on his own in Poland and Germany and during summer he's been
playing in Sweden with a big selection of songs from his forthcoming album ARCTIC,
scheduled to be released somewhen next year. As the title hints it is a conceptual album
about polar expeditions, at the same time it's his most personal material to date.
Compared to the previous catalog it'll be more edgy, bluesy and minimalistic with the
feet based in folk tradition but still with experimental and contemporary details.
Thomas Denver Jonsson managed to reach out from the Swedish underground scene to the
international dito seamlessly after the release of his debut album HOPE TO HER six years
ago. Now, with three albums out and 16 countries visited on tour in Europe and the US,
his droney twist of indie-folk-pop has got attention from many sources from the daily
press, music magazines to the more narrow indie blogs.
Now, Thomas is featured on the brand new compilation cd "What's Kickin' vol. IV"
compiled by the reputated Leytonsone folkie club What's Cookin' and released by Stove
Pony Records, he will also appear on the Townes Van Zandt tribute cd "Via The Great
Uknown" (forthesakeofthesong) in October together with people like J. Tillman, Jad Fair,
Great Lake Swimmers, Be Good Tanyas, Anders Parker and more.
The previous albums has been guested by Rosie Thomas, Damien Jurado, Ned Oldham,
Nina Kinert, Bobby Baby and Jennie Stearns. Thomas also co-runs the vinyl only label
Going Places and is one half of the ambient indietronica duo A Perfect Friend, whose
second full-length album Timber And Modern Ways is out late 2009 on Knoppar.

A PERFECT FRIEND:
Thomas Denver Jonsson is one half of the experimental folk duo A Perfect Friend.
Their second full length album is out late 2009 on Knoppar. Their Eponymous debut
from 2007 was released on STILLL. Compared to their debut, TIMBER AND MODERN WAYS though
noticable progress and increased density, still features APF's patented trademarks of
long notes, minimalistic guitar and pianos, their silent pop nerve, the field
recordings, Larsgården's sonic landscapes and Jonsson's vocals. APF mixes the neu-folk
feeling of stuff like Akron/Family, Bon Iver and early Cat Power with the one of
experimental and ambient acts such as Fennesz, Mogwai and Panda Bear.
